Hunton & Williams, Competition Practice, Partner, Brussels, since 2007.- Advises The Crown Estate on public procurement and competition issues related to offshore wind farms.
- Advises Qisda Corporation on antitrust issues as part of international arbitration procedure.
- Drafts legal opinion for the German energy regulator (Bundesnetzagentur) on long term gas infrastructure agreements.
- Advises German association BREKO on various aspects of EC regulatory framework in telecommunications.
- Represents Airdata AG in complaint before European Commission regarding frequency allocation in Germany.
- Drafted legal opinion for BREKO on EC law requirements for setting the local loop access price in Germany.
- Drafted legal opinion for German associations VATM and BREKO on adverse effects of deregulation on competition in telecommunications.
- Advised several European energy companies on issues related to competition and the EC regulatory framework.
- Advised several renewable energy operators on antitrust, public procurement and State aid issues.
European Commission, Competition Directorate-General, Energy and Water Unit, Brussels, 2003-2007. - Served as case manager/case handler in numerous antitrust cases under Articles 81 and 82 EC-Treaty in gas and electricity, dealing with complaints, ex officio investigations, inspections, formal decisions and settlement negotiations.
- Played a prominent role in the launch and conduct of the EU wide sector inquiries in gas and electricity, contributed to the drafting of the final report with particular focus on unbundling.
- Coordinated unit activities on horizontal issues, including water, petrol, exemptions from third party access to gas infrastructure, and exemptions from the public procurement rules.
European Commission, Competition Directorate-General, Telecommunication and Post Unit, Brussels, 1998-2003. - Served as case manager/case handler in numerous antitrust cases under Articles 81 and 82 EC-Treaty as well as mergers in fixed and mobile telephony and the Internet, dealing with complaints, ex officio investigations, inspections, formal decisions and settlement negotiations.
- Achieved an Article 82 decision against an incumbent fixed telephony operator for a margin squeeze type of abuse in a regulated market.
- Monitored national implementation with regard to effective market opening and sector-specific regulation in telecommunications and dealt with several cases against EU Member states under Articles 86 or 226 EC-Treaty.
