Mark I. Duedall

Practice focuses on all aspects of restructurings, workouts, healthy and distressed mergers and acquisitions, and related transactions.  Mr. Duedall's experience includes corporate matters such as acquisitions, dispositions, recapitalizations, and finance transactions, as well as litigated matters relating to bankruptcy and insolvency in federal courts around the country.  He has represented all manner of parties in national and international restructurings, including debtors, senior and junior lenders, buyers, committees, examiners, and various creditor constituents.

Relevant Experience
  • Headed the complete recapitalization and out-of-court restructuring of a major fragrance/cosmetics manufacturer with debts in excess of $225 million.
  • Headed the out-of-court restructuring of a major recreational boat manufacturer with debts in excess of $125 million.
  • Headed multiple bankruptcy sales of individual brands of a publicly-traded beauty/bath products manufacturer with sales in excess of $200 million.
  • Headed the divestiture of six foreign and domestic subsidiaries by a distressed cosmetics/consumer products manufacturer for total consideration in excess of $120 million.
  • Negotiated and structured the bankruptcy sale of a publicly-traded plastics manufacturer for total consideration in excess of $140 million.
  • Represented an international textile manufacturer in its successful bankruptcy restructuring of over $250 million in debt.
  • Represented the largest unsecured creditor in a contested confirmation fight in the Southern District of New York, defeating plan confirmation after expedited discovery and trial.
  • Represented the largest lessor to a publicly-traded post-acute care provider, and successfully negotiated a complete leasehold restructuring of over 20 properties.
  • Represented the Enron Examiner and played a key role in the analysis of hundreds of complex structured finance and other transactions leading to Enron's eventual bankruptcy.
  • Represented the Court-appointed advocate of future asbestos claimants in the bankruptcy of a major building products manufacturer, defeating the debtor's plan confirmation efforts and successfully confirming a competing plan to restructure over $1 billion in assets and existing liabilities.

  • Head of Houlihan Lokey's Southeast Distressed M&A Practice and Southeast Financial Restructuring Practice, 2006-2009. Provided investment banking services to companies in M&A transactions, turnarounds, exchange offers, and recapitalizations, with particular focus on the consumer products, health and beauty, outsourcing, and plastics industries.
