This site has been created to provide unsecured creditors with information and to solicit and receive comments from unsecured creditors about the pending chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Bear Island Paper Company, L.L.C.

On February 24, 2010, Bear Island Paper Company, L.L.C. ("Bear Island") commenced a chapter 11 bankruptcy case in the Richmond division of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ("Bankruptcy Court"). This case has been assigned case number 10-31202, and the Honorable Douglas O. Tice is the presiding judge.

Committee Appointment
On March 3, 2010, the United States Trustee appointed the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Bear Island Paper Company, L.L.C. (the "Committee"). Current members of the Committee are Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, Voith Paper Fabrics & Rolls Systems, Inc., Baden Tax Management, LLC, Hanover County, and Falling Creek Log Yard Inc. The Committee has selected Hunton & Williams LLP ("Hunton") as its counsel; Bankruptcy Court approval is still pending. Tyler Brown at Hunton is the pricipal attorney responsible for this engagement. To date, no other committees have been appointed in the case.

Deadline for Filing Proofs of Claim
On May 13, 2010, the Bankruptcy Court entered the Bar Date Order.  The Bar Date Order schedules July 6, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. (prevailing eastern time), as the deadline to submit proofs of claim against Bear Island.  For "Governmental Units" (as defined in Bankruptcy Code section 101(27)), the deadline to submit proofs of claim against Bear Island is August 23, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. (prevailing eastern time).   The Bar Date Order also approves the Bar Date Notice, which contains information concerning submitting proofs of claim against Bear Island.
