Practice focuses on the tax aspects of REITs, REMICs, securitizations, master limited partnerships, private investment funds, and other financial products and transactions. Recognized for his particular experience in the formation, structuring and financing of REITs and with respect to REMICs and other securitization transactions. Clients include both equity and mortgage REITs and underwriters of REIT securities. Deals extensively with tax aspects of private investment funds, derivatives and other financial products.
Relevant Experience 
- Tax counsel to a large number of REITs in general and mortgage REITs in particular.
- Structured and provided tax opinions on a large number of REIT capital markets and M&A transactions.
- Represented a number of publicly-traded specialty finance companies and private investment funds that invest, directly and through derivatives, in mortgage loans, mortgage-backed securities, corporate loans, and other fixed-income investments.
- Structured and provided tax opinions on over $100 billion of REMIC and other securitization transactions.
- Nationally recognized for experience in REIT, securitization, private investment fund, publicly-traded partnership, and financial product tax issues.
- Experience in representing issuers, underwriters and investors.
- Particular experience in REMIC residual interests and other mortgage derivatives.
