Practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, internal investigations, civil and criminal environmental enforcement, and general litigation.  Represents both individuals and corporations in regulatory inquiries, criminal investigations, and parallel civil and criminal proceedings.  Experience includes response to search warrants, grand jury and other subpoenas, government investigations and whistleblower complaints.

Relevant Experience
  • Represents energy, pipeline, consumer products, and other industrial companies on a range of criminal and regulatory matters, including internal investigations, litigation, grand jury subpoenas, search warrants, compliance issues, and enforcement defense.
  • Conducts internal investigations, compliance audits, and other evaluations on behalf of corporations and individuals.
  • Represents financial institutions in contract disputes, federal claims and other litigation.
  • Led internal investigation of national industrial corporation in response to allegations of environmental noncompliance and fraud. 
  • Led internal investigation, on behalf of senior executive, of complex industrial accident that resulted in fatalities, and represented senior executive during the subsequent federal investigation, which resulted in a declination of prosecution of the executive. 
  • Conducted internal investigation of national consumer products corporation to assess environmental compliance in response to state and federal investigations. 
  • Represented worldwide consumer products company in international extradition matter.
  • Responded to law enforcement subpoenas and requests for information on behalf of Fortune 25 company and prepared employees to testify.
  • Represented international industrial corporation in wide-ranging whistleblower action involving criminal, regulatory and other compliance allegations, resulting in no penalty and a declination of prosecution from the government.
  • Tried more than 75 federal criminal cases as first chair, including complex money laundering, fraud, conspiracy, corruption, and trafficking.
  • Prepared more than fifty appellate briefs and presented oral argument on numerous occasions before the First, Third, and District of Columbia Courts of Appeal, as well as the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals.
  • Prosecuted large scale drug trafficking and money laundering organizations, and coordinated multi-jurisdictional and interagency prosecution of those organizations.
  • Pro Bono activities include representation of veterans before the Board of Veterans Appeals and the Court of Appeals, representation of a defendant in a complex Innocence Project case, and service on the Pro Bono Committee.
