Emily's practice focuses on labor and employment law matters.

Emily's practice focuses on representing management in federal and state employment and traditional labor matters with an emphasis on defending employers against complex class and collective action claims brought under the FLSA and various state wage and hour laws involving overtime, misclassification, and other wage-related issues. Emily also has experience counseling and representing employers in the areas of employment discrimination and retaliation, workplace harassment, wrongful discharge, and trade secrets.

Emily is a member of the Pro Bono Committee in the Los Angeles office. Emily litigates in federal and state courts and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts of California, the Eastern District of Virginia, and the District of Colorado.

Relevant Experience

  • Defended national food processing company in multiple putative class and collective actions alleging violations of the FLSA and state wage and hour laws, two of which resulted in complete defense jury verdicts at trial.
  • Defended manufacturing company in class action alleging multiple violations of the California Labor Code. 
  • Defended numerous single-plaintiff harassment, discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination cases for companies in the retail, senior living, and manufacturing industries.
  • Defended national company in multiple single-plaintiff cases arising under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and California disability laws.
  • Represented numerous employers against wrongful discharge claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, DFEH, and other state administrative agencies.
  • Advises employers on routine employment issues, including terminations, disability and religious accommodations, family and medical leave compliance, negotiated separations, and non-compete agreements.
  • Experience advising unionized employers on collective bargaining issues.
  • Supervised the review and production of documents for Fortune 500 company in multiple actions.
