Nuclear Power Finds Tough Competitor In Natural Gas

Approval of a new reactor design by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has the industry cautiously optimistic about its future, despite the implications of the Fukushima tsunami and nuclear accident. According to Hunton & Williams' Donald Irwin, an energy partner in the Richmond office, the NRC’s latest development is in fact cause for enthusiasm, but the low price of natural gas may overshadow new nuclear power.
