Hunton Andrews Kurth Assists SimpliSafe in Site Selection for $5.5 Million Support Center

Hunton Andrews Kurth guided SimpliSafe, a leading producer of self-installed home security systems, through the site selection and incentive package negotiations for its new customer support center.

The deal was to invest $5.5 million in a new location for a customer support center for the Boston-based company, which in addition would create 572 jobs. North Carolina and Virginia were both in the running to secure partnership with SimpliSafe and the economic growth that would surely follow.

Led by managing director Todd Haymore and director of economic and business development Lee Downey, the Hunton Andrews Kurth Global Economic Development, Commerce & Government Relations practice provided site selection services and incentive negotiation assistance to SimpliSafe. Taylor Keeney, director of strategic communications and advocacy, coordinated all public communications with the Governor’s office, Simplisafe and government economic development agencies.

On February 27, 2020, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced that the site selected was in the Willow Lawn area of Henrico County.

“SimpliSafe’s decision to locate its second U.S. customer support operation in our Commonwealth shows great confidence in Henrico County’s infrastructure and talented workforce,” Gov. Northam said in the initial February 27 news release announcing the selection. “Securing this project is a significant win that will have positive economic effects throughout the Greater Richmond region. We are pleased to welcome SimpliSafe to its new home in Virginia, and look forward to supporting the company’s continued growth in the home security industry.”
