Our energy practice covers corporate mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructurings, debt and equity finance, energy trading and regulatory work. We act for a broad range of clients including major energy corporates, investment banks, governmental and other state organisations and NGOs throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Carbon
The London carbon practice is considered a 'leader in its field' (cited by Chambers and Partners 2009), our lawyers having developed a significant amount of experience in this relatively new area of legal practice. We advise a diverse and prestigious range of clients, including energy producers, carbon finance and trading entities, originators, aggregators, buyers, brokers and traders, along with investment banks and government bodies in the UK and globally. Our carbon practice covers the integrated areas of carbon projects (notably CDM and JI), carbon funds and structured finance, primary and secondary trading, regulatory compliance and policy monitoring. The team also has experience in relation to carbon capture and storage projects and regulation.

Energy Trading
The team has extensive experience in negotiating and documenting energy trading transactions and regularly deals with standard form energy trading documents (ISDA, GTMA, NBP, EFET etc), structured bespoke products, renewables and derivatives. In addition we have experience with the most up-to-date credit support techniques and products.

Experience of acting in the renewable energy sector is present throughout all of the legal disciplines in our London office and our renewable energy team has the resources and experience to assist in the implementation of renewable energy projects in the UK and beyond. Our team consists of dedicated lawyers with experience in key areas such as project finance, international banking, energy, natural resources regulation and tax. Our lawyers regularly advise on the development, financing, construction and operation of onshore and offshore projects in every renewable energy sector, acting for developers, banks, investors, contractors, suppliers and offtakers. An important part of our renewable energy practice is our experience in the generation, regulation and trading of all types of "green" credits, these credits providing an important source of income for renewable energy projects.

Project Finance
Our project finance team in London advises clients on the structured financing of projects in all energy and infrastructure sectors, in the UK, Europe and world-wide. The team's experience includes projects representing a full spectrum of both size and value and we advise all participants in the project finance chain, from developers, project sponsors and project companies, to banks, mezzanine financiers, multi-laterals and public sector entities. The project finance team is comprised of lawyers from disciplines across the London office, ensuring that each individual project (or portfolio of projects) is serviced with the specific capabilities that it requires so as to add value to both the client and the project(s) concerned.
