RICHMOND, Va. — May 16, 2012 — Hunton & Williams LLP announces Lori Elliott Jarvis, a partner in the Richmond office, has been named among Virginia Lawyers Weekly's 2012 Influential Women of Virginia. The award recognizes the outstanding efforts of women in the Commonwealth who are making notable contributions to their chosen professions, their communities and society at large.
Jarvis focuses her practice on a variety of areas, including environmental litigation and toxic torts, mass tort litigation and class actions, multidistrict litigation, and appellate advocacy. She has been elected both as a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and the American Bar Foundation, two groups that honor lawyers with a history of community and pro bono service.
Since joining the legal profession, Jarvis has dedicated significant time to pro bono work and community service. She has demonstrated a passionate commitment to providing legal support to women who are victims of domestic violence and has assisted countless women escape violence or obtain custody of their children. Jarvis was a catalyst in Hunton & Williams' Women's Shelter Program, which provides services on a large scale and is one of the firm’s official pro bono programs. She has taken her commitment to this worthy cause and spread it throughout the firm, exponentially increasing the assistance available to women in need. She often says that this work is among the most meaningful she has ever done.
Throughout her career, Jarvis has not only served those in need directly, but also has offered support to a number of community organizations. She has filled a variety of roles for the Legal Services Corporation of Virginia, which oversees legal aid, including a position on the Board of Governors. Additionally, she has served on the board of directors and as the president of ESI Connections (now HomeAgain), which provides emergency and transitional homeless services and programming. Recently, Jarvis has been a member of the United Way Women’s Leadership Council and Action Council for Children, Youth, and Families.
