John's practice focuses on complex civil litigation.

John's practice includes litigation involving contract disputes, business torts, financial services, product liability, and antitrust. John has experience with dispositive motion practice, briefing, and arguing appeals. He is admitted to practice in New York State, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

John serves as an Associate member on the New York office's pro bono committee. His diverse pro bono practice includes prosecuting a case under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, representing a disabled veteran in cooperation with the National Veterans Legal Services Program, and partnering with the Coast Guard Legal Assistance Program to provide advice, counsel, and representation to U.S. Coast Guard members and their families regarding personal legal issues.

Prior to joining Hunton & Williams, John served in the chambers of the Honorable John F. Keenan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and previously interned for the Honorable Adlai S. Hardin, Jr., of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Relevant Experience

  • Financial Services Litigation: Represents mortgage servicer in dispute with hedge fund concerning allocation of rights among stakeholders in securitized mortgage trusts.
  • Financial Services Litigation: Defended financial institution in putative class action alleging misconduct in client's bankruptcy claims filing practices.
  • Commercial Litigation: Served on trial team that defended developers against fraud and conspiracy claims relating to a multibillion-dollar hotel and casino development, resulting in favorable settlement on the eve of trial.
  • Commercial Litigation: Represents multinational producer of alcoholic beverages in negligence and Dram Shop action.
  • Antitrust/Competition: Represented Universal Music Group in its $1.9 billion acquisition of the recorded music business of EMI Music. After a Second Request and an extensive investigation, the FTC voted 5-0 to close its investigation without requiring divestitures or other remedies.
  • Antitrust Litigation: Defended leading global payments solution company against price-fixing, tying and exclusive dealing class action claims.
  • Antitrust Litigation: Represented private equity firm in an antitrust challenge to alleged joint bidding for acquisition of public companies.
  • E-discovery: Served as liaison associate of national E-discovery counsel for major telecommunications provider in relation to two large class actions involving allegations of unpaid commissions to employees.
  • Cyber Security: Advised a leading financial institution regarding crisis management related to a significant cyber threat.
  • Hague Convention: In cooperation with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, representing a parent in an international child abduction case proceeding under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
  • Veterans’ Benefits: In cooperation with the National Veterans Legal Services Program, representing a disabled United States Army veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom before the Army Board for Correction of Military Records in order to obtain military disability retirement benefits owed.
