Businesses are becoming more conscious of and savvy about the importance of participating in the legislative process. They realize the stakes are too high to stay on the sidelines when laws and regulations can either facilitate or impede their economic success.
The Hunton & Williams LLP Virginia Government Relations Team is comprised of lawyers and legislative professionals with decades of experience representing clients on a variety of legislative, policy, advocacy, regulatory and procurement issues at the state, regional and local levels. Our relationships have been developed over time and are equally effective in both chambers, on either side of the political aisle, and throughout the government bureaucracy. The team is led by Whitt Clement. Whitt served in the Virginia House of Delegates for 14 years, and was the Secretary of Transportation in the administration of Governor Mark Warner.

We take a proactive approach in helping shape public policy on behalf of our clients. Our diverse set of services includes developing and executing customized strategies that meet our clients' specific needs. Working with local governments is an integral part of the state government relations practice, and Hunton & Williams represents clients on matters before various county and city governments. We can help facilitate relationships with local elected officials, from the office of the Governor to local mayors and school superintendents, thought leaders and community leaders, and provide information and advice regarding community leaders and civic organizations. Our team monitors meetings of county commissions, county boards of supervisors, school boards and city council meetings and works together with policymakers to understand their agendas.
