Hunton & Williams believes a diverse workforce allows the firm to better serve its clients and creates a better work environment for its lawyers and professional staff.
Strong Policy and Program Support
The firm endorses and enthusiastically supports a broad policy of equal employment opportunity that exceeds legal mandates, an affirmative action plan that includes goals for diversity enhancement, and a strong anti-harassment policy. The firm also strives to provide a collegial working environment, maintain a positive work/life balance, support broad-based community outreach and promote diversity within the profession through partnerships with clients and legal organizations.
Commitment Begins at the Top
Our managing partner has responsibility for leading the planning, implementation and achievement of the firm’s diversity initiatives and reports regularly to the firm's Executive Committee and its partners. Senior management and practice group leaders are directed to incorporate the firm’s diversity goals and objectives into their overall planning process, and are held accountable for diversity results through informal mentoring as well as a formal annual evaluation process.
The firm’s 20-member firmwide Diversity Committee ensures the continued development of programs and policies that maintain and support a diverse workforce. Two diversity task forces also are in place. The LGBT Initiatives Task Force is charged with developing programs to recruit, retain and promote LGBT lawyers and also serves as an affinity group for our LGBT lawyers. The Staff Diversity Task Force is charged with creating internal programming to support the firm's commitment to workplace inclusiveness.
In addition, a unique department led by a firm partner—the Office of Lawyer Recruiting and Development—is charged with the responsibility of working with the Diversity Committee, Recruiting Committee and Associates Committee to develop and administer programs related to inclusiveness at the firm.
Hunton & Williams was named one of the 50 Best Law Firms for Women in 2014 by Working Mother Media and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC and received a 100 percent rating on the 2015 Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
