After continuing representation of affiliates of Apollo Global Management, LLC (NYSE: APO), as a lead investor and a lead lender, respectively, in the hotel, commercial, and retail components of the MahaNakhon project in Bangkok for over a year, lawyers in the Bangkok office of Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP (Hunton AK) assisted them in the divestment of equity stakes to Pace Development Corporation Public Company Limited (SET: PACE) and the payoff and discharge of senior loans by project entities. The transactions closed on April 10, 2018.
The iconic MahaNakhon project, situated in the Silom district of Bangkok, includes a mixed-use skyscraper more than 314 meters tall—Thailand’s tallest—and the nearby MahaNakhon Cube building, and houses luxury residences known as The Ritz-Carlton Residences, a hotel to be known as the Bangkok EDITION, an observation deck, and restaurants and retail stores including Dean and Deluca.
Hunton AK lawyers resident in Bangkok are active in many jurisdictions in Southeast Asia having advised on hotel and resort projects, commercial real estate projects, and infrastructure projects, among other things. The team was led by Edward Koehler with day-to-day coordination provided by James Bradley, together with associates Peter Y. Bang, Peerasanti Somritutai, and Jitranut Narkmai, and junior lawyer Thaphanut Vimolkej.
