Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to share that David McSweeney, formerly counsel in the firm’s Environmental practice, has joined Equinor, a leading energy and petroleum refining company. In his new role as senior counsel for Equinor, he will focus on managing environmental and regulatory legal issues for the company’s US operations, including in regard to Equinor’s offshore wind and renewables projects.

At Hunton Andrews Kurth, McSweeney focused on environmental, health and safety (EHS) matters and related policies, especially those involving the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, the Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). With nearly 20 years of experience in the legal energy sector, McSweeney has counseled a broad range of clients such as oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs) companies, pipelines and utilities, manufacturers, banking institutions and other public and private institutional clients. McSweeney joined the firm’s Boston office in 2019.

“It is bittersweet to lose such an excellent teammate and lawyer as Dave. He will be sorely missed, but we are excited for him as he embarks on this new opportunity with Equinor,” said Eric Murdock, head of the firm’s administrative law group.

McSweeney is a graduate of Trinity College and the Vermont Law School.
