Physician inventors face many legal and financial challenges. Eric Hanson, patent lawyer with the firm's Atlanta office, discussed that the journey to invent a new medical device can also come with the opportunity for a lot of reward in improving patient care. Hanson talked about the steps that inventive doctors need to take for a market - address any ownership issues with their employers and apply for a patent.

Hanson's practice focuses on intellectual property, with particular emphasis on the management of patent, trademark, copyright, domain name and trade secret assets, domestic and international patent procurement, conducting patentability, validity, infringement, and product clearance reviews, and developing asset licensing and transfer strategies.
