WASHINGTON ― Following a remarkable 25-year career, 15 with the US government, including serving as Republican Chief of Staff and General Counsel for the House Committee on the Judiciary, Sean P. McLaughlin has joined Hunton & Williams LLP in its Washington office as senior attorney in the federal government relations team. He has provided strategic advice on legislative, policy and political matters to Fortune 50 companies, trade associations and coalitions.

“Sean has worked on and off Capitol Hill, and he is embedded in the political and regulatory arena in Washington,” says Joseph C. Stanko Jr., who leads the firm’s regulated industries and government relations practice. “He participated in high-stakes negotiations over several major bills and has a wide network of relationships with numerous industries, trade associations, and key congressional staff in the House and Senate.”

McLaughlin also served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General to the Department of Justice, as well as a principal at Podesta Group, where he advised multimillion dollar companies and corporations on government relations and public affairs in the patent reform, copyright review, and cybersecurity sectors.

A graduate of Union College, McLaughlin received a law degree from Western New England College School of Law. Following law school, he began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Albany County, New York.
