Hunton & Williams LLP was ranked as a top adviser in SNL Financial’s league tables for bank and thrift legal advisers, by number of deals. SNL Financial provides business intelligence services for the banking industry.

The firm’s financial institutions corporate and regulatory lawyers advised on 15 announced whole-bank acquisitions during 2016.  This places the firm second overall in SNL Financial’s league tables for bank and thrift legal advisers for 2016.  Over the past 17 years, the group has participated in nearly 350 banking merger and acquisition transactions.

“Our representation included a number of challenging transactions.  For instance, we were involved in four transactions that were considered mergers of equals that either were signed or closed during 2016.  In two of these deals, the resulting bank passed $10 billion in assets,” said Peter Weinstock, partner in the firm’s Dallas office whose practice focuses on corporate and regulatory representation of financial institution franchises.

The lawyers in the financial institutions practice have been involved in 80 more bank M&A transactions over the past 17 years than any other firm.

Partner Robert Flowers, who keeps track of the group’s transactions, indicated that 2017 looks to be a good year for the group as well, with over a dozen negotiations in markets across the country already.
