NEW YORK — January 30, 2012 — For the second year in a row, Hunton & Williams LLP was named a Law360 Environmental Group of The Year. In a profile describing Hunton & Williams' environmental practice, Law360 recognized the firm's "ground-breaking triumphs in cases of first impression over climate change nuisance claims and Clean Air Act permitting rules last year."

F. William Brownell, head of the Hunton & Williams environmental group, credited the firm's history in the field for this recognition, noting that the environmental practice — formed in 1970, soon after passage of the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, and the Clean Air Act — grew up with many of the statutes that are the foundation for today's environmental programs: "A large part of our success is the wealth of knowledge with respect to the programs and experience" developed under these environmental statutes.

Law360 also cited the firm's role in the groundbreaking Clean Air Act case American Electric Power Co. v. Connecticut; a case of first impression regarding the Clean Air Act new source review program; litigation over the EPA's revised ozone national ambient air quality standard, matters regarding pipeline safety and Clean Water Act implementation; and Endangered Species Act litigation on behalf of land owners.

Hunton & Williams advises clients at all stages of an environmental issue, from initial legislative and policy development, through implementation, compliance, and court challenges.
