RICHMOND, Va. — March 21, 2011George C. Howell, a partner in the Richmond office of Hunton & Williams LLP, was recently named Chair of the American College of Tax Counsel, a nonprofit professional association of tax lawyers recognized for their excellence in tax practice and for their contributions and commitment to the profession.

Howell, who heads the firm’s tax and ERISA group, focuses his practice on the tax aspects of REITs, REMICs, securitizations, master limited partnerships, private investment funds, and other financial products and transactions. Howell is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Tax Law in 2011, and listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, 2007-2010 editions.

The American College of Tax Counsel is composed of Fellows (approximately 700 in number) chosen by their peers in recognition of their outstanding reputations and contributions in the field of tax law, and is governed by a Board of Regents consisting of one Regent from each federal judicial circuit and two Regents at large.
