WASHINGTON — January 22, 2013 — Hunton & Williams LLP announces the promotion of Karma B. Brown to Counsel. Based in the firm's office in Washington, Brown's practice focuses on litigation and regulatory compliance with the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Endangered Species Act, and on CERCLA and hazardous waste cases throughout the country. She was named one of five "Rising Stars" by Law360 in field of environmental law in 2012.

In addition to her legal work, Brown has undertaken significant pro bono work representing detainees at Guantánamo Bay in habeas corpus proceedings and numerous asylum applicants before the Department of Homeland Security. She was an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School from 2007 to 2009. Before joining the firm, she participated in the Solicitor's Honors Program at the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor and was a law clerk to the Honorable Francis M. Allegra of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Washington.
