WASHINGTON — For the fifth year in a row, Hunton & Williams LLP has been designated an Environmental Group of the Year by Law360. This distinction recognizes that Hunton & Williams has been involved with several of the most influential environmental decisions of 2014, including the landmark US Supreme Court ruling limiting EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gasses from stationary sources. In addition to the greenhouse gas case, the group played a key role in a separate challenge before the US Supreme Court related to EPA’s regulation of air pollution crossing state borders. The Hunton & Williams environmental team is again poised to be a presence in the high court in 2015, as the justices have agreed to review EPA’s rule limiting mercury and other toxic emissions from power plants. “We are pleased to be recognized in this way,” says William L. Wehrum, head of the firm’s administrative law group and chair of the environmental practice. “We are successful because we are able to develop an understanding of the new issues that will be important to clients. When we stay ahead of the curve, we are ready to offer advice and assistance to clients, if a threat materializes.”

The firm’s internationally recognized environmental practice has 55 lawyers devoted to air, water, natural resources, waste, and other matters. The group advises clients at all stages of environmental issues, from initial legislative and policy development, through implementation, compliance, and court challenges.

Hunton & Williams’ environmental practice and many of its lawyers are ranked No. 1 nationally by Chambers USA, which also recognizes team members for their work involving climate change, energy, nuclear, and other regulatory areas. The practice also maintains a Tier 1 national ranking as a Best Law Firm: Environmental Law and is recognized regionally as a Tier 1 firm for both Environmental and Water Law by US News–Best Lawyers, 2015.
