ATLANTA — Hunton & Williams LLP partner Lawrence J. Bracken II has received the Southern Center for Human Rights inaugural Justice Ally of the Year Award. Honored for providing pro bono counsel on prison violence cases, Bracken was one of three legal professionals recognized by SCHR at its 2015 Justice Taking Root ceremony. Former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court Norman S. Fletcher received the Gideon’s Promise Award for his efforts to create a public defender system in Georgia. In addition, Mawuli David, partner and civil rights section leader at the David Bozeman Law Firm, was recognized with SCHR’s inaugural Luminary Award.

“Larry exemplifies our commitment to ensuring the benefits of legal representation remain available to those who may not otherwise have the resources to secure these protections,” said George H. Hettrick, national leader of the firm’s pro bono services. “We are very proud to see Larry recognized among such renowned legal peers and congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”

An experienced business litigator, Bracken represents clients in federal and state courts throughout the United States in a broad range of cases, particularly the litigation of class actions and other cases involving allegations of unfair and deceptive trade practices, alleged violations of business statutes and regulations, related business torts, environmental matters, and complex contract disputes. In addition, he is the leader of the pro bono adoption practice in the firm’s Atlanta office, and provides pro bono representation of prisoners in habeas corpus and other actions involving violations of constitutional rights.
