Lisa Sotto, head of the firm’s global privacy and cybersecurity practice, speaks with several news outlets on the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield framework. Sotto says that the Commission’s approval is a “win for global commerce” and that the Privacy Shield was carefully crafted to meet EU concerns about its predecessor regime’s lack of rigor in important areas, such as the ability of U.S. law enforcement to access personal data, redress for EU residents and the transfer of data to third parties. She also adds that the length of the negotiations that led to the final version of the Privacy Shield indicates careful consideration of the EU’s concerns regarding personal data transferred from the EU to the US via the Privacy Shield.
