Norfolk lawyer Sharon Goodwyn was among the recipients of the 2016 Women of Distinction award, presented by the YWCA South Hampton Roads. In its 28th year, this recognition honors women from all walks of life who have achieved, overcome, and blazed a trail for other women through their professional leadership, volunteer efforts, and civic involvement.

Goodwyn donates pro bono legal services to a number of Hampton Roads nonprofit organizations and is actively involved in her community. She is Past President and current member of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia Board of Directors, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, and a member of the Board of Visitors of the Eastern Virginia Medical School. Goodwyn also is Vice President of the Board of Trustees for St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, a member of both the United Way of South Hampton Roads Foundation, and the University of Virginia Law School Foundation Board of Trustees, and serves on the University of Virginia Tidewater Jefferson Scholars Selection Committee, and the Harvard University Schools Committee.

Previously, she served in various volunteer positions with the Virginia Commission of Women and Minorities in the Legal System, Old Dominion Bar Association, Virginia State Bar Litigation Section, Places and Programs for Children, Inc. (now Children’s Harbor), and Special Olympics Virginia. Until her children graduated from high school, Goodwyn was involved with the Norfolk Chapter of Jack & Jill of America Incorporated, serving as Program Director, Teen Advisor, Nominating Committee Chair, and Bylaws Committee Chair.
