Tim Heaphy, a former US Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, and partner at Hunton & Williams LLP, has been hired by the City of Charlottesville to lead an independent review of the city’s response to the three white nationalist rallies held over the past few months. Heaphy will review the city’s preparation for and response to the events. He will conduct interviews of agency representatives, law enforcement, government officials and members of the community who attended the rally and review available documents and images. He will prepare a report for the City which objectively sets forth what occurred at each event and makes constructive recommendations for improved practices going forward.

Tim is the chair of the white collar defense and internal investigations practice at Hunton & Williams. Prior to joining the firm, he was the United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, serving as the chief law enforcement officer responsible for prosecuting federal crime and defending the United States in civil litigation.
