Number of Positions: 2

Years of Experience: Hunton & Williams LLP and Altria Group, Inc. are proud to announce the renaming of their Richmond, Virginia-based summer clerkships for diverse first year law students as the “Denise F. Keane Fellowships.” Ms. Keane served as the General Counsel of Altria Group, Inc. until June 2017 and has long been a passionate advocate on behalf of diversity and inclusion in the law. In 2012, she challenged her outside law firms to identify meaningful ways to expand participation of diverse lawyers in their work. That year, with Ms. Keane’s and Altria’s active participation, the firm expanded its Richmond summer program to include several clerkships offering unique opportunities for diverse law students to experience first-hand both in-house and outside counsel roles and begin building long-term relationships with clients and practitioners. Since then, more than 20 young lawyers have participated in this program, benefiting from Ms. Keane’s original inspiration. Beginning with the summer of 2018, Hunton & Williams and Altria look forward to welcoming new classes of Keane Fellows in honor of Ms. Keane and in recognition of her work on behalf of our profession.

Altria and Hunton & Williams are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce. In keeping with this commitment, Altria and Hunton & Williams are pleased to partner with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s (“LCLD”) 1L Scholars program to offer two outstanding diverse first-year law students focused on pursuing a career in Richmond, VA, the opportunity to participate in a ten-week fellowship during the summer of 2018 (from May 17 to July 27). They also will be enrolled in the LCLD 1L Scholars Program.
