Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that the firm’s Dallas office is being recognized with the 2025 W. Frank Newton Award by the State Bar of Texas and its Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee. This award recognizes the pro bono contribution of attorney groups whose members have made an outstanding contribution in the access of legal services to the poor.

In 2024, Hunton’s Dallas office dedicated more than 3,100 hours to pro bono service, donating a value of more than $3 million in legal fees. Attorneys in the Dallas office maintain dynamic relationships with agencies that provide critical pro bono legal resources to underserved individuals in the local community, allowing the firm’s team to assess and assist in the areas of most need. The office partners with a wide variety of local organizations, including Catholic Charities of Dallas, Dallas Bar Association’s Legal Line, Housing Crisis Center of Dallas, Human Rights Initiative of North Texas, and Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program’s (DVAP) various legal aid clinics.

The firm’s extensive work with DVAP was recognized with a Law Firm of the Year award at the organization’s 2024 Pro Bono Awards. The Dallas office was honored specifically for its efforts to incept and maintain the DVAP’s virtual clinic platform, which has served more than 21,500 applicants since its launch in 2020, as well as the firm’s dedication to continuing the Small Business Clinics in conjunction with community partners across Dallas. Fawaz Bham, partner and chair of the firm’s Dallas office pro bono committee, was also recognized in 2024 by the American Bar Association as a Pro Bono Publico Award recipient for his pro bono work, particularly his role in launching and leading the firm’s efforts with DVAP’s virtual legal clinic platform.

“It’s an immense honor to receive this recognition and know that the dedication we have to pro bono projects is truly making an impact in our community,” said Bham. “Our Dallas attorneys really champion our agency partners and bring their passion for service and giving back into every interaction with these organizations and their clients.”

Hunton has prioritized a commitment to providing pro bono services since its founding in 1901. The firm encourages individual dedication to providing legal representation to those in need within our communities, whether it is through local projects or partnerships with clients. As evidence of the firm’s emphasis on and commitment to pro bono, associates and paralegals receive billable hour credits for up to 100 hours of pro bono time. In the most recent fiscal year, Hunton globally donated 48,285 pro bono hours and achieved its 16th consecutive year of 100% participation in pro bono projects by full-time U.S. attorneys. Additionally, the firm has 32 continuous years of meeting or exceeding the Pro Bono Institute's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge of donating at least three percent of its annual billable hours to pro bono service.
