Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to share that New York-based Managing Partner, Wally Martinez, has been named to the 2022 Notable Diverse Leaders in Law list by Crain’s New York Business. This “special editorial feature” profiles “top law professionals from underrepresented groups who have made an impact in New York through the types of cases handled, clients won and/or their pro bono work.”

Martinez has been Managing Partner of the firm since 2006, when he rejoined Hunton & Williams after serving as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Diageo North America, Inc. Assuming the role at age 39, he was at the time one of the youngest global law firm leaders and one of only a few Hispanic-Americans to run a major US-based firm. He practices complex business litigation and white collar criminal defense.

Martinez is a leading supporter of, and active participant in, the firm’s award-winning pro bono program. For 13 consecutive years during Martinez’s service as Managing Partner (2009-2021), HuntonAK has attained 100% full-time US lawyer participation in pro bono service projects.  Martinez’s support for diversity and inclusion helped guide the firm to achieving a perfect score on the 2022 Corporate Equality Index. In 2021, the firm challenged all full-time US lawyers to participate in D&I activities. That challenge resulted in universal participation, with thousands of hours dedicated to D&I events, initiatives, and projects. In March 2022, the firm expanded its D&I billable hour credit incentive, already in place for attorneys, to non-attorney timekeepers.
