Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, in partnership with the Houston Bar Association (HBA) Gender Fairness Committee, hosted an evening of networking with attorneys from firms across the city, summer associates, members of the judiciary and other Houston professionals on May 25 at the Houston Holocaust Museum’s Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg exhibition. Slated to run through July 31, 2022, the display explores the American judicial system through one of its sharpest legal minds, the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and brings her commitment to America’s highest ideals to life.

“Working together with the HBA’s Gender Fairness Committee to bring together members of the legal profession is a wonderful way to pay tribute to the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We are honored to support the Gender Fairness Committee’s efforts as part of our firm’s diversity and inclusion commitment,” said Shemin V. Proctor, partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth and one of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee co-chairs.

The exhibition offers a visually rich, entertaining, yet rigorous look at RBG’s life and work and will feature items including: a robe and jabot from RBG’s Supreme Court wardrobe; listening stations where visitors can hear RBG’s delivery of oral arguments, majority opinions, and forceful dissents in landmark Supreme Court cases; 3D reimaginations of key places in RBG’s life; official portraits of RBG and Sandra Day O’Connor; and more.

“As the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg shared, ‘Women belong in all places where decisions are made.’ She was an esteemed justice with a scholarly legal mind. Our firm’s values and commitment to advancing equality in the legal profession carry forward her ideals,” added Proctor.

The Houston Bar Association’s Gender Fairness Committee examines issues related to gender fairness in the legal profession and develops programs that provide a forum for the discussion of issues related to gender fairness, including seminars and networking opportunities. The committee promotes awareness of these issues within the profession and encourages law firms and corporate legal departments to sign the “Gender Initiative Commitment Statement.”

Hunton Andrews Kurth is one of the inaugural supporters of the Gender Fairness Committee’s Gender Fairness Commitment Statement. The firm has signed the resolution since inception in 2006.
