RALEIGH, N.C. — August 18, 2008 — Hunton & Williams LLP today announced that staff and attorneys from the firm's Raleigh office have donated 25 backpacks full of school supplies to middle and high school children in North Carolina who are preparing to head back to school. The donation was given through the "Back to School with Pride" project developed by North Carolina Guardian ad Litem (GAL), a program developed by the N.C. Legislature to provide trained, independent advocates to represent and promote the best interests of abused, neglected and dependent children in the state court system.

The "Back to School with Pride" project provides backpacks and school supplies for children involved with the GAL program and Wake County Human Services. Friends of Wake County GAL started the "Back to School with Pride" project to give children hope, ensure that they have a positive start to school, and help them maintain their own sense of excitement about the first day of school. Hunton & Williams has participated in the program for more than 10 years.

"At Hunton & Williams, we have supported the GAL program and its efforts to help children across our state," said William S. Patterson, Raleigh office managing partner. "Many of us are parents ourselves, and we understand the importance of providing children with the necessary materials to succeed in the classroom and get the school year off to a great start. We are happy to assist the Guardian ad Litem program in this important project."

The Guardian ad Litem program and its network of volunteers serve as a voice for children in the state court system and work towards a plan that ensures that these children are in a safe, permanent home. Statewide, 64 offices, approximately 100 attorneys and more than 4,614 volunteer Guardians ad Litem work as a team to represent 17,701 children.
