RALEIGH, N.C. (May 28, 2008) - The law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP recently honored 22 attorneys from the firm's Raleigh office for their ongoing pro bono activities. Ten attorneys received the firm's E. Randolph Williams Award for providing in excess of 100 hours of pro bono legal services from April 2007 through March 2008. Another 12 attorneys were recognized for providing at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services during that time period.

In 1993, Hunton & Williams became a Charter Signatory to the Pro Bono Institute's Law Firm Pro Bono ChallengeSM to contribute to pro bono work an amount of time equal to 3 percent of the firm's total annual billable hours, at minimum. As evidence of the firm’s emphasis on and commitment to pro bono, associates receive billable hour credit for up to 50 hours of pro bono time.

Hunton & Williams has met the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge for the past 14 years consecutively. This year, attorneys in Hunton & Williams' Raleigh office provided nearly 2,300 hours of pro bono legal services, amounting to 4.47 percent of its billable hours. This placed the Raleigh office at the top of all 18 Hunton & Williams’ offices worldwide in terms of pro bono hours worked.

R. Dennis Fairbanks was the Raleigh attorney with the highest number of pro bono and community service hours recorded, with more than 333 hours. Other attorneys honored with completing more than 100 hours of pro bono work included:

  • Jason S. Thomas

Additionally, 12 attorneys from the Raleigh office qualified for the American Bar Association's honor of completing between 50 and 99 public service or pro bono hours. Those attorneys were:
